Access and Borrowing Rights

Access

Access to the library is free of charge for the following categories of users:

  • Students enrolled on one of the programmes offered by the Academy’s Faculty of Education.

For other visitors and external users access to the Library is permitted upon payment of a small admissions fee*, but it is essential to make an appointment before visiting.

Admission Fees for external users per half day visit (up to 4 hours). Prices are inclusive of VAT:

  •  Students (proof required) £2.00
  •  Individuals engaged in private, non-commercial research £5.00
  •  Commercial Users £10.00

*the Philip Richardson Library is a participant in the ‘Libraries and Learners in London’ / ‘Inspire’ schemes. Users referred to the library with the relevant form will be admitted free of charge on their first visit, but an appointment is essential.

Borrowing Rights

Borrowing rights are currently restricted to students registered on one of the Faculty of Education’s portfolio of programmes; Academy-based GCSE/AS/A2 level students; and all permanent headquarters staff, including data processors and Regional Administrators. Library Subscription Scheme

A Library Subscription option is available for other users and costs just £40.00 per year*.  The subscription scheme offers you unrestricted access to the general reference collections during normal opening hours, and the opportunity to borrow books from circulating stock. Borrowing in Special Circumstances
In certain circumstances, not covered by the borrowing options outlined above, it may be possible for reference material to be taken out of the library for the purposes of teaching, publishing and other educational or Academy related activities. Reference material includes all periodicals, videos, photographs, programmes, notation scores, archive documents and some books. Requests of this nature will be considered on an individual and discretionary basis. Proof of adequate insurance and a deposit may be required, and copyright restrictions may also apply.
