Challengenée 2013
The Genée International Ballet Competition is returning to the UK in 2013 and will be hosted for the first time in Glasgow, Scotland from 20–29 September. In support of this event RAD members and staff have already been working hard to raise funds. The RAD regional team have signed up for the Highland Fling Humiliation! RAD tutor Karen Berry will be putting us through our paces as we learn the arduous Highland fling & sword dance. Taking place in June it will be filmed for your enjoyment and our embarrassment! Comprehensive Syllabus classes
17 March 2013 at St Peter Church of England School, Quarry Lane, Exeter EX2 5AP. A Graded or Vocational Graded syllabus class observed by teachers. The tutor focuses on criteria assessed in examination, helping to enhance students’ knowledge and understanding of musicality, technique and performance qualities - the three interrelated areas that make up the complete dancer.

DANCING TOGETHER Including the Wales RAC Awards Day Sunday 7 April 2013
This event is a celebration of pas-de-deux with 10 professional dancers - specially created for boys and girls. DANCING TOGETHER gives both male and female dancers the chance to explore dancing with a partner, learn choreography and work with professional dancers. Includes a short performance to friends and family at the end of each workshop.
Ballet Cymru combined with the Royal Academy of Dance will present three workshops:
LEVEL 1 - Grades 4 & 5, 10.00am - 11.30am  (basic pas-de-deux on demi-pointe)  
LEVEL 2 - Grades 6, 7, 8 and Intermediate Foundation, 11.45am - 1.30pm (medium pas-de-deux on demi-pointe)
LEVEL 3 - Intermediate and Advanced, 2.30pm - 4.30pm (advanced pas-de-deux to include some pointe work)
An Award will be made to a student in each class who is studying with an RAD teacher based in Wales, the winner will be selected by a judge from ballet Cymru and will be  assessed on technique, musicality and performance. We want you to get the most out of your workshop. This means that you must have been studying the level (or equivalent) you are entering, for at least 6 months.

A day of dance incorporating the RAD Regional Advisory Committee Awards Day. Take part in our fun-packed day of dance – classes include modern, musical theatre and ballet. In the ballet class you will be assessed on technique, musicality and performance (there is no assessment in the other classes). Awards will be offered to successful students studying dance with their RAD teacher in Cornwall, Devon or Somerset. These include:
• places at Exeter Summer School
• class trophy awards
• RAD vouchers
• class certificate awards
WHO CAN ATTEND
Students aged 8 years and over, studying Grades 2 – Advanced or the equivalent.
Group 1: Grades 2, 3 & 4
Group 2: Grades 5, 6, Intermediate Foundation & Intermediate (Intermediate aged under 13)
Group 3: Grades 7, 8, Intermediate (Intermediate aged 13+) & Advanced
Age requirements must be met by end of April 2013.

Next summer, join us for an exciting and energetic week of dance at an RAD Summer School. Working with a team of professional teachers, students will engage in a variety of dance and performance styles, developing their dance training and learning new skills.

South West Kick off their Genée Fundraising
Regional Manager Claire Marks at fundraising eventLocal School, Nicky Jenks School of Dance, held a parent viewing evening with the optional opportunity of taking part in class. Mums, Dads, Aunts and friends including Regional Manager Claire Marks turned up to support the event, and the students helped their family and friends with the exercises. Good fun was had by all and the evening raising £15 towards the regional Genée fundraising, well done and thank you to all involved.

Examination Feedback Seminar

South West teachers joined RAD examiner Caroline Busttil for the first ever Examiner Seminar in the region which was held in Bristol on 9 November 2013.

It was a great day, with lots of informative feedback on the Winter 2013 exam session in the region. Further seminars will be organised for future exam tours.
