Weekly Dance Classes
Ballet classes
The adult ballet classes are non-syllabus classes and are taught by highly experienced RAD teachers. Classes are run as a course and are not available on a 'pay as you go’ basis. Check below to find out which is the most appropriate level for you:
General level
A fun and informative class which is suitable for those with some ballet experience. This class will allow you to gain a good understanding of ballet steps and enable you to further develop classical ballet technique. This is a mixed level class with an emphasis on enjoyment and is structured as four or seven week blocks, therefore participants will not have to commit to a whole term.
Beginners
This class is suitable for those with very little or no previous experience in dance; this class teaches the basics of ballet technique with the view to moving up a level after a year. We do not enrol new participants for the Summer term at this level unless you have some experience - please speak to the Trainnig Co-ordinator about your options.
Improvers Level 1
This class is suitable for those with some previous ballet experience and who already have a good grasp of ballet technique. This class will enable you to progress through the levels as you improve your technique.
Improvers Level 2
This class is suitable for those with at least two years of recent training in ballet technique and who wish to develop their skills and technique further. Students will broaden their knowledge of ballet practice with the view to moving up to Level 3.
Improvers Level 3
This class is suitable for those with at least three years of ballet training, who have developed a strong ballet technique and who wish to take on a challenging class.
Advanced/Professional
This class is for participants at advanced level or professional dancers who would like a fast-paced and challenging class. Students can move up in to this class from an Improvers 2 or 3 level on their teacher’s recommendation only.
Intermediate Foundation Exam Class
Due to popular demand from students, the RAD created an Intermediate Foundation class for students aged 18+ giving adults the opportunity to work towards and take a Vocational Graded Examination. The Examinations in Dance syllabus provides an in-depth study of ballet developing the technique, music and performance skills of the student. It introduces pointe work for female candidates. Students must have at least two years of recent ballet training to apply for Intermediate Foundation. Students will be assessed by the teacher in their first class and entry into the class does not guarantee entry into the exam.
Intermediate Exam Class
Following the success of adult students taking their Intermediate Foundation exam, we are now introducing an Intermediate class. The Examinations in Dance syllabus provides an in-depth study of ballet developing the technique, music and performance skills of the student. To apply for this class students should either have at least three years of recent ballet training, have completed their Intermediate Foundation exam or achieved RAD Grade 6 ballet (or equivalent). Students will be assessed by the teacher in their first class and entry into the class does not guarantee entry into the exam.
NEW General Fitness
A new adult fitness class that will include and combine elements of Body Conditioning, Pilates, Floor Barre, Yoga and stretching techniques. Providing an invigorating workout, this class will focus on muscular strength, body alignment and balance to deliver an innovative, intense and highly effective full-body workout.
Jazz
Enjoy a fun-filled, high energy dance class taught by teacher, choreographer and West End performer, Rosy Thompson. Develop Jazz technique, co-ordination and physical fitness in a fun and friendly environment. This is a general level class with an emphasis on enjoyment.
Street Dance
High energy and stylised, Street Dance is a popular urban style of dance that has inspired music videos by artists such as Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga and Rhianna. Learn routines that incorporate movements such as popping, locking, funk and hip hop, all to your favourite commercial and popular music tracks. This class is for you if you enjoy watching dance companies such Diversity and ZooNation or if you want to use any previous dance training to explore a different style. This is a mixed level class with an emphasis on enjoyment and is structured as four or seven week blocks, therefore participants will not have to commit to a whole term.
Contemporary
This class offers adults a unique opportunity to experience and explore a movement vocabulary blended from various Contemporary Dance techniques. Challenging yet invigorating, emphasis will be placed on building strength and cultivating skills in various areas of Contemporary Dance. Split into six blocks over the year, each block will explore a specific theme allowing participants to select that which they feel may be greater suited to their current needs. All classes will be paced and specifically tailored to match the needs and requirements of those participating, therefore open to all ranges of ability and experience.
